Lower back can be a crippling physical ailment. Not only does it handcuff your life physically, it can be emotionally devastating. A life with lower back pain is a life missing out on what you love. Walking, traveling, and taking care of kids and/or grandkids are all a part of a high quality of life, lower back pain rips these activities away.
With advancements in modern medicine, it would appear that the efficacy of lower back pain treatment would be high. However, this is not the case. The primary reason the efficacy is low, is that lower back pain has nothing to do with the lower back. Lower back pain is a symptom of a root cause somewhere else in the body. Differently said, lower back pain is analogous to a runny nose and itchy eyes, indicators of a problem that needs to be solved
So how do we solve the problem?
We must evaluate your body as one interconnected system. Starting from the ground up, we will identify what mechanical limitations are forcing the lower back to compensate. Often times the aforementioned limitations are loss of mobility in the ankles, hips, and thoracic spine. When mobility in these sets of joints are lost, the lower back has to perform tasks it is not designed to.
Think of the lower back as a substitute teacher when it comes to mobility; it can do the job for a short period of time, however, limitations will shortly present themselves. These limitations present themselves as stenosis, arthritis, herniated discs, and sciatica. Its is nice to have a label for your condition, yet, it only tells you what you have, not why you have it and how to fix it.
Once we evaluate the body as one connected unit, we can then remove your specific mechanical limitations. The removal process involves deep muscle stimulation, soft tissue mobilization, and joint mobilization. The deep muscle stimulation allows for relaxation and circulation to rigid muscles. Soft tissue mobilization releases adhesion deep in the muscle fibers which are acting as emergency brakes on your movement. Lastly, joint mobilization creates proper alignment and orientation of the ankles, hips, and mid-back.
Start saying goodbye to your lower back pain.
The synergistic effect of these interventions allows for spinal decompression and enhanced movement economy. This then leads you to life without limitations, eliminating the frustration and worry that chronic lower back pain creates.
At Movement Matters we provide a 1 on 1, 60 minute approach that is tailored to your specific needs. We provide the why and the how, while most therapeutic interventions focus on the what.
